20 Best Beaches and Must-See Places in Mykonos, Greece (With Map)

Mykonos Island Travel Guide: The best beaches, best hotels for every budget, and must-see places across the Greek island! With whitewashed villages, shockingly clear water, and nightlife that goes until sunrise - Mykonos is the kind of place that feels made for fantasy - and somehow still lives up to it.

Outside of the party scene and the white and blue villages, explore the farther corners of the island for stunning, quiet, amazingly swimmable beaches.

Getting There:

The most popular way to get to and around the Greek islands are the ferries, but with well-established islands like Mykonos, it is so much easier to fly. If you're coming from Athens, the flight takes just about 20 minutes and is infinitely easier than a 3 to 5 hour ferry ride - which can be scenic if you're lucky, or can be incredibly choppy and awful when the winds are high, which is quite often in the islands.

Getting Around:

Download the Iride app - it works like Uber and makes it easy to get around the island. Rides average €15 for short distances and €30-40 for longer ones. Most places accept credit cards, but it’s worth carrying a little cash just in case.

To really have fun and explore deeper, rent an ATV or scooter. Usually we are always ones to rent a car everywhere we go, but parking is challenging on Mykonos, some of the roads are rougher, and there is a reason there are so many of these on the island. We rented one two-person ATV from Motospeed Mykonos - they’ll even pick you up and drop you off at your hotel (which saved us €60 in taxi fare). Skip the 50cc bikes; they can’t handle the hills, and go for something with at least 500cc.

When To Go:

By the end of May, summer in Mykonos is in full swing. The days are sunny and the sun is hot - but the water is COLD. If you want to spend all of your time on the beaches and in the Mediterranean sea, traveling in late August or Early September will give you the warmest water temperatures, and the difference isn't minor, the summer sun heats up the water significantly. By Mid-October, the island mostly shuts down for the season.

Best Beaches in Mykonos You Need To Visit

Yes, Mykonos has the clubs, the parties, the five-star design hotels. But when it comes down to it, the beaches are the real reason to come here. Sparkling turquoise water. Soft sand. Hidden coves. And just enough contrast between wild and luxe, quiet and scene-y, to keep you coming back.

These are the best beaches in Mykonos to swim, sunbathe, or spend the entire day doing absolutely nothing.

1. Agios Sostis Beach

One of the last undeveloped beaches on the island. No umbrellas, no restaurants - just a wide stretch of golden sand and perfect swimming conditions. Pair it with lunch at nearby Kiki’s Tavern (get there early or you’ll wait).

2. Fokos Beach

Remote, raw, and totally untouched. No loungers, no music, no beach bars. Just a calm bay with the clearest, glassiest water on the island. One of the few places in Mykonos where you can still find real quiet.

3. Kalo Livadi Beach

Big, beautiful, and blissfully clear. Kalo Livadi has long been a favorite for good reason - it’s spacious enough to find your own patch of sand, but still has chic clubs and loungers if you want them. A solid all-day beach.

4. Lovers Beach

A hidden cove just south of Agios Sostis. Not marked on many maps, this tiny inlet is known by locals and insiders as Lovers Beach for its tucked-away feel and seclusion. The beach is down a rocky path, and overall easy to access for most, but unaccesible for those with mobility issues. It’s one of the most intimate, scenic spots on the island. Perfect for couples or solo travelers seeking real quiet.

4. Psarou Beach

This is the glam beach. Think: yachts, champagne, designer bikinis, and beach clubs with minimum spends. If you’re after the scene, this is where to find it. Nammos is the main attraction here, and it’s a full experience.

5. Paraga Beach

A hybrid of laid-back and lively, Paraga offers a little bit of everything. Clear, swimmable water, nearby beach bars, and a crowd that skews more relaxed than Psarou - but still stylish. Great if you want vibes without going full party.

6. Elia Beach

One of the longest beaches on Mykonos, Elia feels spacious even during high season. It’s also one of the most LGBTQ-friendly spots on the island, with a relaxed energy and a beautiful mix of locals and visitors.

7. Ftelia Beach

Windswept and wild, Ftelia draws a bohemian crowd and has great windsurfing. It’s less ideal for swimming on windy days, but perfect if you’re chasing that laid-back, surfer energy.

8. Ornos Beach

Family-friendly and close to town, Ornos has everything within walking distance - sunbeds, restaurants, markets. It’s not the quietest beach, but it’s convenient and great for groups who want easy access to everything.

9. Agrari Beach

Right next to Elia but far quieter, Agrari feels like a hidden gem. It’s a bit harder to get to (you’ll need a car or ATV), but worth it for fewer crowds and clean, calm water.

8 Can't-Miss Places in Mykonos

Whitewashed villages. Blinding blue water. Laidback beach clubs and late-night dance floors. Mykonos is the kind of place that feels made for fantasy - and somehow still lives up to it. But the real magic is in knowing where to go, when to show up, and which overhyped spots are worth skipping.

1. Armenistis Lighthouse - Mykonos's Best Sunset Spot

One of the best spots to watch the sun set over the Aegean. Pack a bottle of wine and head out on your ATV for golden hour views without the crowds.

2. Kastro’s Restaurant

Tucked into the side of Little Venice with one of the most iconic overwater dining spots in Mykonos. Come for the salmon pasta (seriously, I am still thinking about this), Mykonian salad, and panoramic views that make the entire dinner feel cinematic. Walk-ins welcome for lunch, but come at an off time (early, or the late afternoon time between lunch and dinner) to get  *the*  table.

3. Negrita Bar

Right on the water in Little Venice, this bar does it all - sunset cocktails, late-night energy, and a passionfruit-ginger drink called the Hot Pelikan that’s worth the hype.

4. Little Venice Waterfront

Right on the edge of town, this overwater stretch is one of the most photogenic corners of Mykonos. The buildings seem to rise straight out of the sea, and the restaurants and bars here are perfect for sunset drinks with a view. Busy, touristy, but still undeniably magical.

Get here before 11 AM, before the cruise ship crowds flood the alleys. Wander through whitewashed streets, shop local boutiques, and grab a coffee overlooking the Aegean. Come back for sunset drinks along the water.

5. Mykonos Town

The seminal Greek Island view you can't leave without - a maze of whitewashed alleyways, vibrant blue doors, blooming magenta bougainvillea, and hidden corners is best explored in the early morning, before the crowds pour in. Grab a freddo espresso, wander without a map, and pop into small art galleries, linen boutiques, and handmade jewelry shops.

If you want a calm experience or great photos, definitely plan to be here well before 11am, when the cruise ships typically come in and the town fills up.

6. Kiki’s Tavern

No electricity. No reservations. No signs. Just grilled meats, Greek salads, and carafes of rosé under the trees. Get there early or late to avoid the lunch rush - the owner pours free wine while you wait.

7. The Windmills of Mykonos

The island’s most iconic landmark. Just above Little Venice, these 16th-century windmills are a short, scenic stop with wide-open views of the Aegean. Go for golden hour when the light cuts just right and the crowds thin out.

8. AB Market

Not a landmark, but a lifesaver. Stop in to stock up on wine, feta, bread, Greek yogurt, and tomatoes - €20 can get you through a couple of beach picnics or breakfast spreads. A must if you’re trying to balance out all the restaurant dinners.
