Top Five Adventure Vacations You Need to Add to Your Bucket List

Adventurists have a whole world to explore. From mountain tops to ancient civilisations, to everything in between. If you’re after absolutely unforgettable experiences, then this list has you covered. Discover the top adventure vacations and top destinations that you absolutely need to put on your bucket list right here:

1. The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

One of the most famous sites in the world is Machu Picchu. Now, you can get to Machu Picchu with a flight, a train, and then a bus, but if you are an adventure fanatic, then the better option will always be to take the multi-day hike along the Inca Trail to the world-famous site. There are even luxury tour operators like Kuoda Travel that make the experience that much more pleasant with the help of experienced guides and local porters. You’ll walk the trail of the Incas while enjoying delicious meals, portable hot showers, and even massages upon request.

2. Go on an African Safari

Another bucket-list trip that you absolutely need to consider for yourself is to go on an African Safari. There are so many top options to do this, but if you want to see the Big Five, which includes lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, and, of course, the buffalo, then you’ll need to travel to South Africa or Kenya. The best safaris, after all, are in national parks like the Serengeti or Kruger.

3. Climb Mount Everest

The absolute peak of adventure and beauty is by far Mount Everest. Just like many other sites in this list, Mount Everest has become something of a pilgrimage to many, while also becoming overrun. This means that new rules and regulations are now in place:

  • The permit fee is now $15,000 for spring climbs, a new $4,000 ecology fee (that can be reimbursed if you remove your waste). This is on top of the increased wages for Sherpas and Liaison officers.
  • Solo climbs are banned. Every two climbers must have a Nepali guide bring them to the camp.
  • The season’s open window has been reduced from 75 to 55 days.
  • New waste management and collection rules are in place.
  • You must now have GPS trackers, a death repatriation service, and have summited at least one 7,000-meter peak beforehand.

4. Step Back in Time to Angkor Wat

Another must-see ancient site is the absolutely stunning and awe-inspiring Angkor Wat temple and its surrounding complex. Once the capital of the Khmer empire, Angkor Wat is a truly stunning site, absolutely worth making a trip out to Cambodia. Cambodia, of course, has plenty going for it, just like Peru, but like Peru, you cannot miss your chance to see this stunning ancient site for yourself.

5. See Fire and Ice in Iceland

Iceland is a dramatic (and small) country that combines the drama of volcanoes and hot springs with the cool and majestic beauty of full icebergs. It’s an absolute must for those who want adventure on a small scale, as the entire country can be driven around in a few days. It’s also incredibly safe, making it ideal for DIY travelers who want to get off the beaten trail and explore Iceland at their own pace.
